Michigan Medical Marihuana Act (MMMA)
The Michigan Medical Marihuana Act (2008) implemented the patient/caregiver model that still remains in effect today and is unchanged by the Medical Marihuana Facilities Licensing Act (2016). Registered patients may continue to grow their own medical marihuana – or they may continue to have a caregiver grow it for them – under the 2008 law. Grow operations authorized under MMMA are subject to zoning ordinances available here.

There is no licensing required, however, grow operations are subject to building codes. All necessary building, electrical, plumbing and mechanical permits shall be obtained for any portion of the structure in which electrical wiring, lighting and/or watering devices that support the production of marijuana are located.
